The Polanski Case

A rough, hot Texas wind had been rattling my office windows, since daybreak.
It was one of those bone-busting blusters that rushed down the street swirling dust into every nook and cranny.  Those wailing winds did not last long.  No more than a day.  But the resulting dust was an irritant.

It frequently prompted an outbreak of violence.  This, in turn, often resulted in people taking a chunk out of somebody.  More often than not, the combatants were husband and wife.  And wifey, as expected, usually got the worst of it.

 Not a nice outcome.  But, more or less, a Texas tradition.  If you can't beat your wife, who can you?  Certainly not your dog.  The Humane Society would have your head.  

But, how does one explain a dead wife?
